Toa Payoh housing estate is the oldest HDB residential estate in Singapore. Constructed in the 1960s, it has a population of 300,000 people. The estate is now very exciting with plenty of commercial activity. There is the subway station right in the centre of the area. A shopping mall and many side streets for shoppers. Restaurants, food courts dot the area. There are also many amenities for residents - post office, banking offices, boutique shops, eating houses, and more. The estate is also located in close proximity the city which makes it convenient for residents to go to work. The make-up of the population is getting younger as new apartment blocks are built and more younger families migrate into the area. Property in the district is also getting more costly as a result. This is an estate with an adjacent industrial park. The town centre is served by a bus interchange where residents can take the buses to almost any part of Singapore. Toa Payoh mrt station.
